Skyline Antiques Shirley & Kev Smith

Skyline Antiques have been trading since 2007. They started off by going to local smaller Antique Fairs in Village Halls, Schools etc. Both found their passion in different styles and genres. Shirley used to buy Royal Doulton & Worcester Porcelain ladies, and Art Glass including Paperweights, whereas Kev found a liking for Belleek Irish Porcelain, mainly the earlier pieces, and WMF Silver Plated items. At one of the Fairs, the Organiser asked if they would like to have a Stand at the next Fair, as they were always there, and that’s how it all started.

They have built up a varied knowledge of Antiques over the ensuing years, which is mainly due to the changing tastes of the buying public, which means having to adapt to these changes and buying different types of Stock and learning about it. They had many good results and many disasters, which is the normal way of life of the lowly Antique Dealer.

They learnt to accept both ups and downs, and put it down to experience, and hopefully learn from it.

Rene Lalique, glassware, silverware & snuff boxes

They have now built up their Stock and experience and now specialise in Rene Lalique, early and mid 20th century glassware, Georgian & Victorian silver, Georgian & Victorian snuff boxes made of various mediums. They also deal in porcelain and pottery, including Wedgewood, Limoges, (French) Longwy, with other items by various miscellaneous manufacturers and anything else they see and like, of a good quality.

They mostly dealt at higher end Antique Fairs after a few years learning the business, in various British locations, buying and selling a widely varied assortment of items from other dealers and members of the public. Some of the Fairs they used to stand at included, Detling Show Ground, (Kent), Peterborough, Stafford Showground, Ludlow Racecourse, Chateau Impney, Westonbirt School, Exeter and many more over the years.

Both have been filmed a few times at some time over the years, at the Fairs and have appeared on, Bargain Hunt and Put your Money Where Your Mouth Is.

Although now retired from the Fairs circuit, they still intend to go and visit some of the Fairs to see their old Dealer friends and buy new stock. Shirley’s passion is for Art Glass and has studied this subject over the years and has built up a good all-round knowledge of the subject which invariably helps when buying stock.

Kev likes Georgian Silver, WW1 & WW2 Militaria and the more ‘quirkier’ items and pieces of Social History which he likes to research at great length.
